Michigan's Bowl Uni - 2013 Outback Edition

Michigan is once again changing their uniform.  This time, for the Outback bowl.  They are also changing their helmet.  They are going to wear matte navy and maize, which is the trend that seems to be dead (unless it's all black errthing).  The jerseys don't look too bad, which follows their uni changes.  I like the gold numbers and the blue on the shoulders look fine.  I can't tell if they have block Ms on the sleeves or numbers, but either way, it's better than their normal whites with yellow lines all over the place.  Grade: B+ (C- if you are a traditionalist)

After I keep looking at it, adidas has done some pretty good work (Texas A&M, Mississippi State) and some bad work (Wisconsin, Nebraska) and this falls with Michigan's past uni changes.  They want to keep it as classic as they can.  I really like it as a non-die-hard Michigan Man.  The Outback Bowl patch though...

New Cincinnati Football Helmet for bowl game

They look sweet with the checker pattern and the claw stripe up the back.  This will also be their alternate helmet for next year.  I imagine they will have some sort of pride uni from adidas to match these.  I'm guessing either an all red-out (similar to Arizona) or Black on red with these helmets.  Well done UC.

UCLA All Blue Errrthang

UCLA is either going baby blue on navy, or baby blue on baby blue for their upcoming game with Arizona.  I can't really tell from this instragram pic.  Either way, it's really lame.  They are planning with an "LA Nights" constume uniform later, and I ding this one because I like their standard blue on gold.  Once again, adidas, you're trying WAY too hard.  Grade: C-

Just a reminder...Wisconsin Road Uni vs. Nebraska

Just a reminder, this is happening tomorrow night. //shoots self in eyeball with nail gun...

Hm ok.  So last year, Michigan wore a "throwback" or whatever with a giant M on the front with a little number on the upper chest.  Ok cool.  That's how teams rocked their unis back in the day when there was no TV.  Nebraska took to it (another adidas school) when they showed off their "unrivaled" set with a big N on the front with a little number on the upper chest.  When the Huskers came out with that jersey, there were rumors and then an official statement that Wisconsin too, would have a special jersey for that game (another adidas school).

Well today, Wisconsin showed that special jersey.  And guess what?

Let's see, there's the giant letter of the school with a little number on the upper chest and diffe
rent color shoulders.  It's so lame and so copied and the teams will look the exact same.  One thing Nike gets is that they kind of got away of the "Nike templet" at least for special uniforms and occasions.  Not only is adidas copying what Nike started, which is fine.  New gear, new replicas, new money.  But they are copying themselves.  So the Ns will be playing the Ws.  Awesome!  Horrible job.  Jersey isn't bad, but I don't wanna see the Ns vs the Ws.  Do something different, for once.  Oh and the black socks typify the shittiness of this. #techfitisshit

Here's was the Ns will be wearing by the way:

New Mississippi State football uniforms (2)

adidas is doing it again.  They are really getting annoying.  It would be cool if they did anything (something) new, but they just keep repeating themselves and Nike.  This time, they are giving the Bulldogs a "snow bowl" uni for when they play Texas A&M this year.  They are paying homage to the 2000 Independence bowl, of course, when the two teams played in a snow storm and Miss. State went all white.

You might be asking, "Oh that's cool, are they going to wear the uniforms they had in 2000 (which are one of your favorites)?"  Um no, because they (and A&M) were Nike schools at the time, they couldn't possibly wear a 2000 Nike template.  No, adidas is going to do what Maryland and Under Armour did last week and go with an all white/silver errrrthing uniform.  Very lame.  The helmet also has a giant dog face on it.  So they have ripped off Under Armour (Maryland) and now Nike (Missouri, and don't forget Carolina basketball's silver anniversary edition uniforms from a few years back). I do like the template, pretty plain and classy, but yeah, not original and you can't even read the numbers.  Oh yeah, your competitors have been doing the same thing for about 5-10 years.  Do something (anything) original for one team.

Now onto their "Battle for the Golden Egg" unis.  Last year: Cool.  This year: Over done/trying too hard.  Let's recap...now Miss. State has a new uniform for all of 2012, and then a white out and an Egg Bowl 2.0 uniform.  And they are an average to below-average SEC West team.  Holy shit, enough already.  The only thing missing is #HAILSTATE as the back nameplate.

Notre Dame Alternate Uniform

October 6th, versus Miami in Soldier Field.  I woke up this morning, checked uni-watch, and this is what I see.  These were dropped last night and I have no idea what is going on.  Notre Dame is supposed to be one of the college football programs that you cannot touch.  The Helmet.  The Navy on gold.  The green alternates.  Classic all around.  Sure, they can tweak a little here and a little there and pay homage to the past while selling new stuff, but this...I have no words.  If Ohio State ever went with a two-tone unsymmetrical helmet just because, I would lost my shit.  Everyone bags on Nike for being evil and making teams look like they represent "Team Nike" and Oregon and blah blah blah Pro Combat sucks blah blah blah, but the last 20 things adidas has done, along with the practice jerseys, has been downright deplorable.

If this is what the new uni craze has come to, I might turn into a pure-traditionalist right now.  THIS is too much.  Nebraska and Wisconsin, bad.  THIS is too much for a program with the stature of Notre Dame, their annual 4 losses notwithstanding.  Adidas is doing this by the way, not the swoosh.  Here are the pictures form It's Always Sunny in Detroit via Uni-Watch.  Grade: F-

Lost Letterman Update: SCREEN CAPS! WHOOPIE!! Here you go, Husker Nation.
These will be worn on Sept. 29th as they host Wisconsin under the lights in Lincoln.

Um...so this is going to happen?  I doubt the faithful in Lincoln will be down with this.  I think Stanford already did this.

New Mississippi State Unis

Northwestern wasn't the only team to show off their new duds yesterday.  Miss. State, one of my top 10 unis of all time in the late 90s, showed off their new adidas unis as well.  A complete upgrade from what they had previous and OMG no stupid grey.  One thick stripe down the pants and coming out of the neck to the sleeve number and a think white stripe on a maroon helmet.  I love the look.  And the socks!  The biggest takeway: It could have been a lot worse.  Bring back the MISS. STATE on the front and we're all set.

New A&M Unis

Texas A&M rolled out new unis from Adidas, and if you know anything about me, then you would know that the TAMU unis in the late 90s (Dat Nguyen 4 LIFE) are one of my all-time favorites.  Deep maroon, all white, nike, simple/clean, sleeve numbers.  All me.  Even a little pattern on the sleeve and neck trim a la Penn State and Florida State.  They would have been in my top 5 if I was a 5-star.  GIG EM!!

Anyway, when they switched to Adidas, they added gray, but just a little bit and ruined the freaking TAMU brand.  They brought back the old style during Von Miller’s prime, but used the stretchy style that looks like a colored trash bag.  Their stretch fit looks like shit and Adidas sucks balls.  Anyway, new conference, new unis for the Aggies.  Here they are, via @AggieFootball.  Hey A&M, when you go back to Nike, let me know.  Oh and have fun getting to a bowl in the SEC.

Takeaway
Not too bad, they look like Sparty before they went Nike psycho with just one stripe down the side.  And the two stripes coming down the shoulder is nice, but if you're gonna use two stripes, then use two stripes.  If you're gonna use one, use one (I'm all about consistancy). Update from Uni-watch: The shoulder stripes come for the '70s.  Uh OK.  Why not keep the current set and use this as another option?  Oh well.  At least there is no black (nor white helmet - the guy with the gloves kinda looks like he's got a white helmet, but it could be the glare, youneverknow) Looks like there is a white helmet, along with the addition of the grey facemask, a must for any Dupe uni.  The color finish is also flat/matte.  The #techfit still look like shit BTW.  The Nationals-style numbers with the shading on in the inside, called beveling, looks like shit.  I’m not even gonna speak on the continued sleeves.  Or gloves.  Or socks.

Here's a nice video from the guys at adidas:

*Minnesota Update* College Uniform Release Day: What they wore back then now and beyond, featuring 2011 Nike Pro Combat Uniforms

1/20 Minnesota Gopher Update
The Golden Gophers first unvieled their helmet, and today they released a video showing their new uniforms, like it was a new ipod or car or something.  As a noted Buckeye honk, Minnesota is a nobody in the B1G so this video is kind of amusing.  It has Alabama or Clemson "swag" (and I use swag as a dig) but the acutal uniforms seems to be pretty plain with all the new nike technology.  I was fully expecting an Oregon-ization with some black and some silver/shiny to be featuring outside of the maroon and gold, but it looks like Nike went back to the glory days of the early 2000s.  Shoulder numbers, no stripes, and a contrasting collar.  Plain pants with some type of honey-comb padding.  Maroon, gold and white shirts and pants.  The numbers have a pattern that has something to do with Eskimos or the lakes, but overall I love the look.  Simple, classy, true to the colors and with the newest fabric.  Well done Gophers, well done.  You could have totally mucked it up, but you went the other way.  And no black jersey (that they show).  Here's the video:

The Jay-Z song from 3 years ago is a nice touch, by the way.  I don't think Sean Carter even knows what Minnesota or a gopher even is.  Anyway, in the time of (see below) uniforms, the Gophers keep it classy.  BRAVO.

Here is a video that explains the details of the uniform.  The numbers have a brick pattern on the white and gold (maroon numbers) jerseys.  The number font goes back to the font that was used on the 1940 jerseys when the Gophers won the national championship.  There is no mention of overall look being similar to the early 2000s but I think they look almost identical.

Here's the video that explains the details:

Here are videos of the players showing them in a photo shoot:
