Michigan's Bowl Uni - 2013 Outback Edition

Michigan is once again changing their uniform.  This time, for the Outback bowl.  They are also changing their helmet.  They are going to wear matte navy and maize, which is the trend that seems to be dead (unless it's all black errthing).  The jerseys don't look too bad, which follows their uni changes.  I like the gold numbers and the blue on the shoulders look fine.  I can't tell if they have block Ms on the sleeves or numbers, but either way, it's better than their normal whites with yellow lines all over the place.  Grade: B+ (C- if you are a traditionalist)

After I keep looking at it, adidas has done some pretty good work (Texas A&M, Mississippi State) and some bad work (Wisconsin, Nebraska) and this falls with Michigan's past uni changes.  They want to keep it as classic as they can.  I really like it as a non-die-hard Michigan Man.  The Outback Bowl patch though...

Ohio State "Rivalry" Nike Unifroms

Nike came out and said they were paying homage to the 2002 team.  Then they said they were going to pay respects to the 1968 team.  They did neither.  This looks like a uniform from the Mario level where everything is huge.  I don't mind them and will use them in NCAA '14, however, for the Michigan game, where you can see all the Buckeyes they have earned the entire year, and for this year to be THE last game, I think I am with everyone else when I say that these should have been worn for the Nebraska game, not for THE game.  This game will be the most watched and I get it, Ohio State has now done this for 4 years (3 out of 4 Michigan games).  I just want a normal-looking Ohio State-Michigan game.  These are all the pictures from the pep rally tonight from the Ohio Union.  The numbers are reflective, but won't be that big of deal on a gray November day at noon.  The stripes are all exaggerated, and there are 7 Buckeye leaves on the back collar.  The helmet will feature no Buckeye stickers and is a "dull chrome".  It looks like the scarlet stripe has texture to it, probably Buckeyes or buckeye tree bark.  No black tv numbers (1968) or normal stripes like in 2002.  Good effort, wrong game.  It would be a lot cooler if Nike only chose special teams.  When every team and their mother are doing special uniforms every week, the teams that don't change shit seem to stand out more.  Dream senerio?  1990-2000s throwbacks but used as normal jerseys with the big Steeler gray stripes.  Whatever.

Uniform: B
Timing: F

This picture comes via @BenAxelrod a must follow for Ohio State fans.
Like years in the past, former Buckeye running back Raymont Harris is the model.

Just a reminder...Wisconsin Road Uni vs. Nebraska

Just a reminder, this is happening tomorrow night. //shoots self in eyeball with nail gun...

Hm ok.  So last year, Michigan wore a "throwback" or whatever with a giant M on the front with a little number on the upper chest.  Ok cool.  That's how teams rocked their unis back in the day when there was no TV.  Nebraska took to it (another adidas school) when they showed off their "unrivaled" set with a big N on the front with a little number on the upper chest.  When the Huskers came out with that jersey, there were rumors and then an official statement that Wisconsin too, would have a special jersey for that game (another adidas school).

Well today, Wisconsin showed that special jersey.  And guess what?

Let's see, there's the giant letter of the school with a little number on the upper chest and diffe
rent color shoulders.  It's so lame and so copied and the teams will look the exact same.  One thing Nike gets is that they kind of got away of the "Nike templet" at least for special uniforms and occasions.  Not only is adidas copying what Nike started, which is fine.  New gear, new replicas, new money.  But they are copying themselves.  So the Ns will be playing the Ws.  Awesome!  Horrible job.  Jersey isn't bad, but I don't wanna see the Ns vs the Ws.  Do something different, for once.  Oh and the black socks typify the shittiness of this. #techfitisshit

Here's was the Ns will be wearing by the way:

UVA 1968 Throwback Unis

The Hoos will wear these when they play La. Tech on September 29th.  They are of the 1968 season.  Very cool.  Would love to see the swords instead of the V but these look very 1968ish.  Also no numbers on the helmet seems to be a bold look for the 60s, but gotta let Mr. Jefferson's University live.
Grade: B+/A-

Quote of the New Era of Buckeye Football

This comes from wide recieve Corey "Philly" Brown earlier today,

"Coach Tress’s was kind of just play it safe and win the game, as opposed to Coach Meyer’s which is we’re going to go score 100 points, and do this and do that, and try to run scores up, and just have a good time out there. Try to defeat our opponent’s will, just ‘no mas’ everybody.”

No Mas is right
This is exactly why I still cannot believe Urban is the head coach of Ohio State.  Tress had to apologize for scoring in the 4th quarter at Northwestern in 2007.  A 30-7 win over Akron was deemed good enough.  Seniors got to start no matter what.  That era is over.  I loved Tress.  I still do.  But with our 4 and 5 stars, his offense was boring and predictable and overall BLAH.  They are not going to lose to Purdue anymore.  Michigan thinks they had a nice season by only giving up 34 to the worst Buckeye offense in history.  No Mas is right.  Hide ya kids, hide ya wife.  Once this thing gets rolling...look the F out.

UTEP All Orange Errrrrthang

UTEP going all orange.  Love the combo, navy with bright orange.  Ever since Carson Palmer's brother got his diploma, I haven't given much thought to UTEP other than I hoped they wouldn't stay within 35 of Houston last year, and they didn't.  Thanks for the $$$$$.  Also, more orange is always better orange, as long as it's not the Browns or Syracuse (Cleveland-please bring back the orange pants, AMIRIGHT?)  The blue on orange or white on orange wouldn't be hateful either.  Anything on orange and I'm pretty much a fan, so I am biased.

Anyway, here's UTEP's unis.  All orange for their first game Sept. 1st.  Sock included.

New Maryland Football Uni

Here we go...too bad they only won 2 games last year and had about 29 players transfer.  I don't know if you can use the "uniforms are for the recruits" argument if they all leave after one practice.  The helmets remind me of the Iowa Barnstormers from the Indoor league that had the goggles around the helmet.  Yuck.   From twitter.

Official Oregon Green Jersey

This is what the Ducks will wear when they go with their standard green shirt.  It first debuted in the Rose Bowl but had a giant patch on it and I wasn't sure if it was a special Rose Bowl jersey or just a preview the this year's.

The silver Air Force wings are gone and there is an addition of sleeve numbers, which I both like.  They are using extra material like they did in the early 2000s (and I guess you could count the diamond plates too) that are in the form of wings which I guess works...but for Oregon, this is pretty tame.

I am suprised the numbers weren't rejected due to the fact that they are hard to read.  Black on dark green is tough enough, but with the metallic finish on them, it's almost impossible at night with the lights.  I also wouldn't mind that wing design on the pants in some fashion, on the knees like the diamond plates or down the side at a stripe...I think it would look cool as the same color but with a different glossy finish.  No word as to whether or not their chrome lids will be used more or just once like the best helmet of all time, the Holiday Bowl la flama blanca, which needs to be put in NCAA '13 like yesterday.

Anyway, what I am really using this for is to see if I can embed a tweet into this thing...

New A&M Unis

Texas A&M rolled out new unis from Adidas, and if you know anything about me, then you would know that the TAMU unis in the late 90s (Dat Nguyen 4 LIFE) are one of my all-time favorites.  Deep maroon, all white, nike, simple/clean, sleeve numbers.  All me.  Even a little pattern on the sleeve and neck trim a la Penn State and Florida State.  They would have been in my top 5 if I was a 5-star.  GIG EM!!

Anyway, when they switched to Adidas, they added gray, but just a little bit and ruined the freaking TAMU brand.  They brought back the old style during Von Miller’s prime, but used the stretchy style that looks like a colored trash bag.  Their stretch fit looks like shit and Adidas sucks balls.  Anyway, new conference, new unis for the Aggies.  Here they are, via @AggieFootball.  Hey A&M, when you go back to Nike, let me know.  Oh and have fun getting to a bowl in the SEC.

Takeaway
Not too bad, they look like Sparty before they went Nike psycho with just one stripe down the side.  And the two stripes coming down the shoulder is nice, but if you're gonna use two stripes, then use two stripes.  If you're gonna use one, use one (I'm all about consistancy). Update from Uni-watch: The shoulder stripes come for the '70s.  Uh OK.  Why not keep the current set and use this as another option?  Oh well.  At least there is no black (nor white helmet - the guy with the gloves kinda looks like he's got a white helmet, but it could be the glare, youneverknow) Looks like there is a white helmet, along with the addition of the grey facemask, a must for any Dupe uni.  The color finish is also flat/matte.  The #techfit still look like shit BTW.  The Nationals-style numbers with the shading on in the inside, called beveling, looks like shit.  I’m not even gonna speak on the continued sleeves.  Or gloves.  Or socks.

Here's a nice video from the guys at adidas:

Duke going with a matte black helmet.  I am all for flat-black.  Even if it is en vouge, along with white helmets.  It's Duke football, so who cares?

Over the weekend...

Boston Red Sox's Kevin Youkilis tips his helmet as he comes off the field after hitting a triple and being replaced with a pinch runner in the seventh inning of a baseball game against the Atlanta Braves in Boston, Sunday, June 24, 2012. (AP Photo/Michael Dwyer)
It's been real Boston.  Off to the
south side of Chitown

This guy will spend the rest of his life in jail.

I attended the Twins-Reds game on Satuday with one of my college buddies, his college buddy and my homey from high school and OSU.

This guy was traded from the Sawx to the Sawx.

This guy hit a walk-off for the Fightin' Phillies and made some money.

UCLA offered Snoop Dogg's soon-to-be sophomore son a scholarship.  I hope they hire Master P's son a coaching position and get Faith Evans a board of director's spot.  There is nothing better than 1990s rap.  No doubt DMX could coach Cover 1.
