New VT helmets

These were worn against BC this past weekend.  All white, with a new Hokie bird on one side, TV numbers on the other.  I don't mind the look if the rest of their set was non-traditional, but with the classic look, the helmet looks 1)stupid 2)out-of-place and 3)trying too hard/ripping off Boise State.  If you're going to rock the UCLA stripes on the shoulders and the same stripes down the pants, go ahead and put those same exact stripes on your helmet.  If you want to go psycho, go all in, like Maryland or Boise or Oregon.  Don't class up the joint with a suit and then wear a neon trucker hat.  All class or all psycho.  And I would like to see the numbers on the helmet match the numbers on the jersey.  Alabama doesn't so not a huge deal though. Georgia Southern Camo Unis

Here is what Georgia Southern will wear in October.  The interesting thing is that the players will have their last names on the front of their jersey.  On the back will read, "ALWAYS READY ALWAYS THERE" and will pay tribute to the Georgia National Guard.  The players can also add a patch of a relative who has served for this great nation.

This looks like the first time a jersey that is paying respect to the military will actually look like a military uniform.  I think it looks freaking sweet, but only for a one time deal.  This has to be a one-and-done.  Very well done.  It may be cheesy, but I think it's awesome.  The full uniform can be found at Nike Blog.

New SMU Uniforms

When June Jones took over a few years ago, he went back to the multiple Buffalo-Bills-stripes, which looked pretty good.  This year, they are taking the Northwestern Stripe and putting that on the shoulders, which I have never seen before.  They switched the stripes with the numbers and removed the SMU on the front with the horse.  No blue shown, but I would expect them to break those out from time to time.  Good look, but I like the shoulder stripes to be a little less bold.  Not bad but a big of a step down from their new-classic look from the past couple years.  Grade: B

Note: I believe they were adidas the past few years, so the switch to Nike with new jerseys makes sense.

New Army Helmet: Flat Gold

Army is going with a flat look, like most new helmet teams, which looks like the color of the hummers, which is cool.  Also, a fattened black stripe and the flag on the back.  Grade: B+.  Hit the jump after the first picture for the rest.

VTECH Camo Jerseys

These are the camo jerseys the Hookies will wear this year at home.  They are pretty "boring" for a camo set, but with the maroon trim and the camo numbers (sleeve numbers a huge bonus), along with wearing white at home, I love the look.  It's rare for Nike to go the other way when introducing new uniforms, so this is a nice, classic, clean tribute to those who make it easy to watch the game we love on fall weekends.
